Important Message from the President

Dear Students:

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Earlier this year, Argosy University launched the AU Action Center, a resource that provides students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to communicate directly with government officials on issues vital to our institution, its employees, and its students.

The Action Center has proven particularly important during the time in which the U.S. Department of Education has been developing a new regulation known as the “Gainful Employment” rule. If adopted in its proposed form, this rule will limit educational and economic opportunities for millions of Americans attending and employed by privately-funded institutions of higher education like Argosy University. Thousands of letters have already been sent to Members of Congress through this website.

But there is still more work to do, and your help is needed.

The Department of Education has officially proposed its Gainful Employment rule, which can be found at the following link: (Proposed Rule). Through September 9, the public has been asked to provide their comments on the proposed regulation. Letters that you can customize and personalize are available at the AU Action Center. By taking just a few minutes of your time, you can help inform U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and your legislators about the impact this rule could have on our students, our communities, and our University.

In short, the Department of Education’s proposed Gainful Employment rule will limit educational and economic opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Americans. Specifically, this rule will have a particularly adverse effect on degree programs offered to low-income, minority, women, working adult, and other at-risk populations. This will result in reduced access, less opportunity, and fewer choices for students.

To date, our voices have been making a difference in the halls of Congress. Now we need to be heard by the Department of Education as well. Even if you have already done so before, please take a few minutes to provide additional comments by visiting the AU Action Center or http://www.auactioncenter.com/ today.

Sincerely,

Ronald A. Swanson, D.Ed.
President
Argosy University, Atlanta

P.S. – a quick call to the office of your U.S. representative or senator could also make a big difference. Tell them you don’t support the Gainful Employment regulation without changes that will protect thousands of students whose access to higher education will otherwise be restricted.
