However, a few students are not complying with the policy. When this happens, Lakeside Commons security officers write what is called an incident report. The report is passed on to our campus. GDOT Construction Alert
Please be advised that starting tomorrow, Saturday, November 13th the Georgia DOT will need to close the Building Two access road and upper entrance/exit at Hammond Drive through the end of the day Thursday, November 18th. During this time, students will need to utilize the main entrance and exit to the property or the secondary entrance located between Wells Fargo and the Publix shopping center.
This closure is necessary at this time since the construction company is in the process of preparing to transfer traffic onto the new bridge in the upcoming weeks. Their goal is to get the roadway in front of our property completed ASAP providing the least amount of disruption to our access.
After Thursday, November 18th this entrance and exit will be opened again for use; however, the roadway application will be a gravel composite until December 8th. Therefore, we highly recommend continued use of the main entrance and exit to the property during this time.
Again, we cannot thank you enough for your patience and understanding through this project. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and as always ask you to please contact Student Services with any questions or concerns you may have.

Important Information
I hope you had a great Fall 1 experience! Please keep the following in mind as you proceed to Fall 2 and Spring Semester.
Spring Semester Registration is ongoing… Register Now!
If you have not registered for spring semester courses, do so immediately. Your schedule is available in the student portal. You will be charged a late registration fee of $50 dollars if you do not register by November 11th. Remember time out of school is reported to the National Clearinghouse. It may count against your grace period for student loan re-payment.
Seriously consider registering for more than one class. You will be surprised at how much less you will pay for your degree and how much less loan debt you will have upon graduation.
Real Scenario – Fictitious Student:
Jack is taking one class per semester in the Master of Arts in Forensics Psychology Program (MAFP). His course cost for the year is $4,167. He is approved for Subsidized and Unsubsidized Student Loan totaling $20,398. His total refund for the year is $16,388. The program requires 48 hours of study. Because he takes only nine (9) credit hours per year or one (1) course per semester, it will take him 5.3 years to complete the MAFP. At this rate, he will have student loan debt of over $100,000 when total tuition and fees is approximately $26,640. The lifetime loan limit for a graduate student (except for PSYD) is $138,500. At this rate, Jack will not be able to complete a doctorate using financial aid loan funds. Does this sound familiar? Avoid this scenario by adding another class to your Spring Semester course schedule or return a portion of your refund to save for later use. Contact Finanial Aid for more information. They are happy to help.
Attendance Requirements:
You are required to attend class. If you are enrolled in a blended course, your class officially begins October 28th. So, log in to the eCollege portal or respond to your professor between October 28th and November 5th. We will drop you from the course(s) on November 5th if you fail to physically attend (if scheduled); log in to eCollege; or respond to your professor. If your class meets on campus, you must attend during the scheduled class meetings. If you are enrolled in an online course, you must login and participate before November 5th.
Add/Drop Deadlines:
The add/drop deadline for Fall 2 is November 5th. You may withdraw with a “W” grade from November 6th to December 1st.
Late Registration for Fall 2:
You will not be able to register for any Fall 2 courses after November 5th. So don’t delay. Use the attached Add/Drop form to complete your registration now. If you are on a financial hold, you have until that time to clear it up. Contact FA immediately.

45 minutes of one-on-one writing help: APA format, citations, grammar, and style
Help with SPSS, statistics, and research assignments
Help with math assignments
Helpful handouts with invaluable writing tips
Help with making a PC or laptop APA friendly

Students should not wait until the last minute to bring an assignment to the Center, and what the student brings does not have to be polished work. Important Message from the President
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Earlier this year, Argosy University launched the AU Action Center, a resource that provides students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to communicate directly with government officials on issues vital to our institution, its employees, and its students.
The Action Center has proven particularly important during the time in which the U.S. Department of Education has been developing a new regulation known as the “Gainful Employment” rule. If adopted in its proposed form, this rule will limit educational and economic opportunities for millions of Americans attending and employed by privately-funded institutions of higher education like Argosy University. Thousands of letters have already been sent to Members of Congress through this website.
But there is still more work to do, and your help is needed.
The Department of Education has officially proposed its Gainful Employment rule, which can be found at the following link: (Proposed Rule). Through September 9, the public has been asked to provide their comments on the proposed regulation. Letters that you can customize and personalize are available at the AU Action Center. By taking just a few minutes of your time, you can help inform U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and your legislators about the impact this rule could have on our students, our communities, and our University.
In short, the Department of Education’s proposed Gainful Employment rule will limit educational and economic opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Americans. Specifically, this rule will have a particularly adverse effect on degree programs offered to low-income, minority, women, working adult, and other at-risk populations. This will result in reduced access, less opportunity, and fewer choices for students.
To date, our voices have been making a difference in the halls of Congress. Now we need to be heard by the Department of Education as well. Even if you have already done so before, please take a few minutes to provide additional comments by visiting the AU Action Center or http://www.auactioncenter.com/ today.
Sincerely,
Ronald A. Swanson, D.Ed.
President
Argosy University, Atlanta
P.S. – a quick call to the office of your U.S. representative or senator could also make a big difference. Tell them you don’t support the Gainful Employment regulation without changes that will protect thousands of students whose access to higher education will otherwise be restricted.

Scholarship Deadline Extension
Great news! The scholarship deadline has been extended for 1 week. You have until 6:30pm on July 7, 2010 to submit your scholarship application. Print and complete the attached. Add the appropriate information for the scholarship you chose (if needed) then fax it to 770-407-1110 or pdf and email to me. Keep your confirmation.
While we are discussing scholarships, I see that some of you have already submitted an application BUT it is either an incomplete application or you checked too many boxes so we are unable to determine which one you are applying for. We won’t be able to process these applications, so if you did either of the above, you will need to resubmit your application by the deadline with only one scholarship checked and/or make sure your application is complete.
Scholarship application review should be complete the end of July and hopefully awards posted by the middle of August. Good Luck!

Memorial Day
A handful of old men walking down the village street
In worn, brushed uniforms, their gray heads high;
A faded flag above them, one drum to lift their feet-
Look again, O heart of mine, and see what passes by!
There's a vast crowd swaying, there's a wild band playing,
The streets are full of marching men, or tramping cavalry.
Alive and young and straight again, they ride to greet a mate again-
The gallant souls, the great souls that live eternally!
A handful of old men walking down the highways?
Nay, we look on heroes that march among their peers,
The great, glad Companions have swung from heaven's byways
And come to join their own again across the dusty years.
There are strong hands meeting, there are staunch hearts greeting-
A crying of remembered names, of deeds that shall not die.
A handful of old men?-Nay, my heart, look well again;
The spirit of America today is marching by!

A Letter from Craig D. Swenson, Ph.D., Chancellor, Argosy University System
I am writing to share some exciting news and to reaffirm our commitment the University’s mission of providing exceptional professional higher education. To that end, I am pleased to announce that Argosy University is involved in a process of strategic expansion that will provide new opportunities for many of our existing and prospective students.
First, our plan is that the Western State University College of Law, the oldest law school in Orange County, California, will become part of our University and will become known as the Western State College of Law of Argosy University. Western State is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Our plans also include the establishment of a college of art and design. This new college will be created by merging the eight Art Institute campuses in California into a single entity and making it a part of the University. It will be known as the Art Institute of California, a College of Argosy University, with campuses in Hollywood, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and Sunnyvale.
In light of the geographical location of these two new colleges and in order to ensure a successful transition, we have begun the process of seeking regional accreditation from the Commission on Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC, see at http://www.wascsenior.org/ ). Until this process is complete, we will continue to be accredited by our current regional accrediting association, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC), after which time we will transition to WASC.
Throughout this process our institution’s distinctive identity, history, and reputation will remain strong and, we believe, become even stronger. These actions will advance Argosy’s stature as a national, comprehensive University. The addition of the disciplines represented by these two new colleges will enhance the intellectual life of our University community. The potential for interaction among the students and faculties of this diverse set of disciplines will create synergies that will support the mission of our University.
While new opportunities may open for you as a student of Argosy, Art Institute or Western State as a result of these actions, you will experience little to no change on a day to day basis in your program, your faculty, and the operations of your institution. If you have any questions, I encourage you contact your local campus.
Sincerely,
Craig D. Swenson, Ph.D., Chancellor

Construction Related Traffic Alert!
When work begins on Friday at 9PM, the right lanes will be closed on State Route 400 northbound just north of I-285 and as the work progresses throughout the weekend the lane closures will move to the left lanes. Two northbound lanes will be maintained at all times and the southbound lanes will not be affected.
Motorists should also be aware that beginning sometime Saturday evening, the ramp from I-285 eastbound to State Route 400 northbound will be closed for approximately eight hours. It will reopen early Sunday morning. A detour for this ramp will be in place and will be signed accordingly. The ramp from I-285 westbound to State Route 400 northbound will be open the entire weekend however there will be a change in the merging and yielding conditions on that ramp and Georgia DOT is urging travelers to use extreme caution.
This traffic shift is a component of the construction at State Route 400 and Hammond Drive. This $18.2 million project began in February 2009 and is scheduled to be completed by August 31, 2011. To learn more about the progress of the Hammond Half-Diamond Interchange, please visit the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) website. Click "Hammond Ramps" at the top of the home page to be redirected to the GDOT project site.

IMPORTANT! Please Read!
Dear Students:
I am sure you have noticed the flurry of activity on Hammond Drive as the Department of Transportation (DOT) completes additional ramps to Interstate 400.
DOT will shut the water off to work on moving the water main for our building, so we will close campus on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28.
Therefore, classes scheduled for those days will move to the Art Institute of Atlanta.
Services will not be available and you will not have access to our campus. Please plan accordingly.
We will post directions, classroom schedule, and a reminder on the Blog.
Also, make sure you check your Argosy email for further updates and information.
